Moodle 1.2 will now support groups within classes, providing a fair bit of flexibility to create a variety of course scenarios. For example, you can create a forum where grouped students only see discussions in their own groups, followed by a whole-class activity. Another popular option will be the ability to define "Separate" groups or cohorts of students taking the same course (perhaps at staggered times) and never seeing the other groups. Tutors can be restricted to a particular group, or allowed to see all groups from a birds-eye view.
