I am using moodle Moodle 1.6.1+ on top of php 5 and mysql 5. Excel will not open any files that are downloaded from any gradebook in our site. When I open them in openoffice there are many errors in many cells that say *** ERROR IN SST *** where students scores should be. I can't find any other references to this problem. there is no error that pops up in moodle itself, just problems in the excel file that downloads.

Are you able to import the same gradebook into OpenOffice as a tab-delimited (Or Text Document) file instead of an Excel Spreadsheet? I did a quick search on google and it looks like it may have to do with unicode characters, but I don't know for sure. Hopefully, that gives you a clue (or someone else who knows more about this than I do). Best of luck.
I can export it as a text document and then open it into excel, the grades come up the way they should. The problem must be in the excel export itself. Thank you, Chris for the information.
