I am amazed at how flexible Moodle is and how well is handles so many
different teaching methods. AFAIK, the average is of only the rated
posts. If I could remember which students had already submitted a
substantial reply I could opt to not rate the secondary contribution;
however, I find it better to let the students know the value of each
post. That way, if a student thought he made a substantial contribution
and sees that it was not sufficient or what he had hoped for he can go
back in and try again. The reality is that I often do not remember
which students have submitted and which have not so scoring each post
is easier for me.
