jpeg images don't appear in Hot Pot

Hello everyone:

I am a newcomer to the forum I have installed version 1.6.2 just this week on the intranet where I work (in Mexico) so students can access their coursework over our LAN. I have read several threads on the same subject, and I am still having the same problem - my jpeg images don't appear.

The screenshot is of a Jcloze exercise in the Moodle browser which shows a box with the "name of the image" but no image appears. To the right of that is my directory structure. I have no problem accessing the image at

and the path inside the Jcloze exerice is

img src="airhands.JPG" alt="airhands.JPG" width="454" height="346" border="0"

I have checked the administrative settings and have the multimedia plug-in set correctly.

If anyone could offer a suggestion, I would certainly appreciate it. I've been going around and around this problem all afternoon, and I'm dizzy!

Thanks for your help!

Mark

We need to find out what the URL has been changed to by the HotPot module. You can find out the modified URL as follows
  1. open up your browser and view the Moodle course page
  2. click the link to start the HotPot activity and view the quiz in your browser
  3. select "View Source" from the "View" menu of your browser. This will show you the HTML source of the webpage.
  4. search for the string "airhands.jpg", and you should be able to find what the URL that is used in the quiz. The URL will be part of an <IMG> tag.
  5. report back the URL that you find
If you can't find the URL, please post the whole quiz to this forum, or send it to me: gordon at-sign kanazawa hyphen gu dot ac dot jp

regards

Hi Gordon,

Here is the url:

After looking at the url, I searched the forum for file.php and found one of your other posts on the same subject and did what you suggested.

---

On the Admin -> Variables page on the Operating System section, you will find the "slasharguments" setting. Whatever the setting is, please toggle it to the other one and click the [Save Changes] button at the bottom of the page. Then try again to view the Moodle page containing the image - you may have to "refresh" the page in your browser to force the browser to request the image again from the server.

---

Lo and behold, it worked!

Thanks for your reply. It's nice to know people are around when you've got a question.

Hi

I seem to have a similar problem and my partner and I followed the instructions that worked for you but alas not here.  It is a matching activity it even works - you can move the images around but they don't show as images but purely as a broken link.  I am not technical at all - so any help in laymen's terms would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Andrea

I noticed, looking back at the old posts, that the URL to the images had an upper-case extension (.JPG) while the images themselves on the server had a lower-case extension (.jpg). This is an important difference on most Web servers. On your local Windows machine, .jpg is the same as .JPG in a file name, because Windows file systems are not case-sensitive, but on most Web servers that's not the case. Could you check to see if the reference to the image has the same case as the image filename itself?

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Andrea,
if you continue to have problems please do one of the following:
  • EITHER upload the quiz and image files to my server
  • OR set me up as a teacher on your course and send me the login details:
    • email: gordon at kanazawa hyphen gu dot ac dot jp
cheers
