The server is a twin Xeon 3.2GHz with 4GB memory and 600GB of disk space running Windows 2003 with all current patches applied. The Moodle install is the standard package from the download section for v1.6. The details given in the install file are:

 + Apache 2.2.2
  + MySQL 5.0.21
  + PHP 5.1.4 + PEAR (basic package)
  + eAccelerator 0.9.5 beta2 (PHP5 experimentally)
  + XAMPP Control Version 2.3 from www.nat32.com
  + XAMPP Security 1.0
  + SQLite 2.8.15
  + OpenSSL 0.9.8b
  + phpMyAdmin 2.8.1
  + Webalizer 2.01-10
  + Zend Optimizer 3.0.0

I played around with the MySQL settings for memory space and upped it to 512M as the article indicated which allowed the server to cope with 60 stations which was better. My technical staff do not want to switch to Linux as they do not feel they have the necessary technical skills to maintain it so I am stuck with Windows 2003 but beyond that I can do just about anything.

Ideally I need it to work with about 200 stations but any improvement would be helpful.
