Hi - I am trying to upgrade to 1.6 from 1.5.1 (I think). I backed up my spring course in two different files, and moved everything to renamed directories as suggested. When trying to find the course backups in 1.6, they are not appearing. Where are the .zip files from the backup operation located?

The automatic course backup location is set in the admin area.

One of the tasks is to set up the backup location. If you don't set a location at all, the backups should be stored in the appropriate course folders. If you set a particular location, the backups should be saved there.
Did you (or your admin) perhaps change this setting? If you did a manual backup as an instructor, would it be created in your course files? Can you look in the moodle folders on your server and try to locate the files, or can you only see inside your own course?
I am sorry, but I can't tell from your post whether you have admin rights or not. That would make a lot of difference with respect to finding an answer!
