I am using Moodle for training of employees at very large companies.
Using the group function, we can now group employees into departments. But now we need someway to allow the manager of a department to view the detailed activity reports for members of his/her group without giving them the ability to make changes to the lessons or view the activity of students not in their group.
In a grade school setting this is similar to what you might want to allow for a Parent.
My thought is to add a new user type with a variable name. Parent or Manager would be typical names.
This user could be assigned to a group. By doing so they can see teacher level detail on any member of their group.
Is there any interest in adding this functionality?
