I am a k12 educator and I am trying to use moodle as a format for community development with the teachers in my district. About 50 of us attended a training of instructional strategies and classroom management over the summer and the idea here is to create a community of practice based around that workshop. My hope is for participants to be able to share their experiences, ask questions, upload and download resources... I can envision this becoming a sort of online professional development center for the teachers and administrators in my district.
My tech director is behind me and willing to support me on this project but he doesn't have any time to devote to helping me. He can support me with tech consultants from the district if needed. I am hoping that I can do this on my own.
Our hope is to run Moodle from a pc located in my classroom and provide access through my website which is on the district server. Our tech director is concerned about housing Moodle on our district server. So I guess we need to provide access to my classroom pc. I know that we have a t1 line for access. Initially, I don't think the volume will be very high. I had 40 teachers sign up to be a part of the CoP. As a trial thing I installed Moodle on my home pc using XAMPP install package and it went flawlessly.
My challenge is I am having a hard time conceptualizing how we are going to provide access to the pc in my classroom. I have never really worked on the server side of things. I do have my own website that I created on the county server so I am familiar with ftp. I would appreciate any advice or insight that anyone has out there. Thanks.
