Hi,

I understand that this is not Moodle related but I thought that Moodle.org, with its amazing Moodlers and techi's and teachers....etc was just the place to look.

I am doing to work for a small web design company in my town and I am transfuring the WHOLE of tadleyroundabout.co.uk to Joomla!

If any of you have seen Tadley Roundabout you will notice that the Tadley Traders Index is ....well......MASSIVE!!!!!

Does anyone know how to import web links into Joomla in bulk, ie. CSV, spreadsheet?

Thanks Very Much and Goodnight from the UK,

Martin

Are you talking Weblinks the built in component? If so no.

If you want this facility install the free Bookmarks Component from TEG Designs http://www.tegdesign.ch/

http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,162/Itemid,35/

It does import export etc etc

Thanks both,

I think I am going to look into other CMS's to compare them. I'm not sure which one is best suited for Tadley Roundabout. Can you bulk import links into PHP Fusion? I like that CMS ;)

You may want to look at some of the big ones like plone http://plone.org/

Last time I tried installing Plone I gave up because it meant installing extra software on the server. I think I'll just keep it simple.

Thanks all,

If you're looking for a great CMS, IMHO Drupal is the best!  wink

I'll have a look into Drupal sometime. Right now, I am having a heck of a time getting the file chmod's right via CPanel! PAINFULY SLOW!!

This won't be what you want to hear or be much help to you, but I d/l and installed Bookmarks without a hitch on the strength of the recommendations in this discussion. Suggests it's a problem at your end rather than with Bookmarks. Are you installing the component?

It could be a problem my end. I have known XAMPP to get me some problems.

I gave up on the Bookmarks component, Instead I found another one that allows you to import from Firefox.

This is a very good component. I think I will settle for that one.

Martin, can you please share with us what your final solution was as many of us use Joomla and Firefox?

Cheers,

Hello Everyone!

Take a look at Link Directory.

  • It allows import of bookmarks from brower "htm" or "html" bookmark file & CVS (I think).
  • Very Good to Excellent Administrator Dashboard
  • Allows for some configuration of number of columns.
  • Can add category images.

You can check some info about it at,
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,762/Itemid,35/

Demo Page

Another very nice display at JoomlaCollection,

Thats it!

The component I used was LinkDirectory.

Click import from the components menu and select a bookmark file.

You can dump your Bookmarks in firefox to a Bookmark file by going to the Bookmarks menu, Manage Bookmarks, File, Export.

Sorry I didnt mention the name I had forgotten and was in a hurry.

It is a very good component!
