Hi all,
I have uploaded moodle 1.6 (a new install) and the installation process starts as normal. However, after setting the moodle data folder I get a bad gateway error page.
I wonder if I have set the file permissions incorrectly? Am I right in saying that only the moodle data file needs to be set to have read and write permissions?
What permissions should be set for the other files in the installation?
Thanks in advance,
Ed
file permissions in moodle 1.6

Hi Eddie,
I think U'll have to set more than the moodledata folder as rw, specially cuz the installation process creates a file named config.php on moodle dir.
hope it helps...

Thanks Hélio,
I have set the data folder to rw, but I can't seem to find info on which other files need permissions setting and to what. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks again Hélio,
Ed

Have a look here: http://docs.moodle.org/en/Security#Most_secure.2Fparanoid_file_permissions
This needs you create your config.php by hand instead of letting the installation do it, but it's just cut & paste of a few lines.
Saludos. Iñaki.

Re: file permissions in moodle 1.6
Iñaki,
Thanks for your message. I am trying to install moodle 1.6 on a windows hosted server using PLESK so I can't set permissions without using plesk.
As far as I can see I have set read write permissions correctly for the moodledata folder, but just can't seem to get past the bad gateway error after the third screen of the installation process where you specify the location of the moodledata folder.
As I understand things I basically I need to:
1. manually create the moodledata folder with read/ write permission
2. start the install process
Is that right? I know that I may need to manually copy the config file over but is there something I'm missing?
Thanks again to all,
Iñaki, teneís unas tapas mas buenas en tu tierra!

I think that should do it. Don't forge to copy the config.php file in the moodle installation folder, not in the moodledata folder

P.D. Me alegro que te gusten las tapas!

Hi Iñaki and all,
I have managed to get this working at last. It would appear that I had incorrectly configured the config file. (Oof!)
Thank you to all for your help.
