I'm struggling to get some courses backed up with endless XML errors. The xml files are huge and kill Firefox. I've run the XML files through notepad++ XML file cleaner with no errors found...
anyone have a suggestion?

I've found this and, after some quick tests it seems to clean XML from control characters like a charm (although more testing is needed).

(just follow the 3 points at the bottom of the page with your moodle.xml file)
