We're still planning our moodle setup. I've spoken to a few colleges via moodle.org and local colleges to find out how they provide students with email. I've found that most colleges provide either microsoft exchange or are Novell colleges and have the Novell software create the pop3 accounts.
I'd be very interested to hear how people who are not using Novell have setup their student mail, idealy we'd like the mail system to be linked in with our active directory users so that when a new user is created, so is their POP3 account... and when a username is terminated... so is their POP3 account.
We are looking at POP3 as we would like to use the squirrelmail webmail interface.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Aidan.
POP3 for students - How do you do it?

Hummm, to use squirrelmail, you need to use IMAP, not POP3
On the other hand, we use a home-made scripting system to create/remove accounts from Active Directory and our Linux based email system (that uses LDAP authentication against active directory).

Sorry, your right IMAP... May i ask what you use on your linux box as the email server? The other solution i've come up with is to use micosoft exchange server hooked up to our active directory users and to connect to it via squirrelmail.
Thanks for the reply.

We are using postfix + cyrus IMAP.
