Sideblocks only on the side?

Sideblocks only on the side?

Hello,

I have read over the theme documentation and at first glace my hope was that sideblocks could be placed anywhere on the page thanks to CSS.

But it seems that I am unable to do this. I have a great layout created by a graphic artist who didn't design with Moodle in mind. And the design does not fit the standard moodle sideblocks and center-content mold. At worst case I would want just the 'home page' to display with the sideblocks in a different position.

It would look (more or less) something like this...

+------------------------------+
|                                                        |
+------------------------------+
|      +--------+  +----------+    |
|      |              |    |                  |      |
|      |              |    |                  |      |
|      +--------+  +----------+    |
|      +---------------------+    |
|        |                                      |      |
|        |                                      |      |
|        |                                      |      |
|      +---------------------+    |
|      +--------+  +----------+    |
|      |              |    |                  |      |
|      |              |    |                  |      |
|      +--------+  +----------+    |
+------------------------------+

Is this possible, or am I just wishing and dreaming?

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael,

with the standard Moodle installation you can't.

On the other hand you can base on Moodle's flexibility and create a new course format. The course format is not based on 3 columns but on the three rows R1 to R3 (as shown in the figure below)

You have an interesting approach. Whereas you may bear in mind that you loose much didactic flexibility which comes from the possibility to switch blocks on and of as you need their output for your learner's progress.

I hope this helps
Urs
