Just click the x in the row of icons next to the resource/activity you want to delete.
PS Might have been better to post in the general problems forum but you do tend to get answers fairly quickly wherever you post
I have seen that option to delete those items, however I hav not been able to find a way to delete any of the sub items for Forum and Assignements that are located in the Activities area on the left hand side of my original screen shot. If I add a forum, or assignment resource, I can access it by clicking on the forum or assignment link under the activities section, however I do not have any X's or anything else when I drill down into area.
How do I delete the items under the Assignment section, sorry if that wasn't clear before.
hope that helps
You cannot delete individually the items which appear in the Activities block (the block which is located in the left column of your site on your screen shot). The only choice you have is to either display or not display the Activities block. Get into Edit mode, and either click on the eye to hide that block from the students or click on the X to remove the block. The list of items which go into the Activities block is automatically built from the activities that you have created within your Topics. For instance, on your course you have creates one assignment activity (Experiment with Moodle) and one Resource (Defining terms), so you get an Assignment and a Resource item in your Activities block. If you had created e.g. a Hot Pot exercise or a Quiz or a Lesson, you would get those items listed there.
Hope this is clear.
Do you mean that you want to alter the list of activities that appear in the drop down box?
If that is the case, you must be an admin. The admin configuration screens allow you to customize the modules that are active for your site (click on modules, when you are in the configuration menu). You can hide any of the modules and some of them allow for optional settings.
Personally, I leave all the activities available for my instructors. You never know when they will want to experiment with something! You can't turn them off selectively, so it is available for everyone or no one.
Hopefully, one of us answered your question!
No, I am not refering to the ctivities that appear in the drop down box.
In my original post that contains a screen shot there is topic number 2 Defining terms - starteing a glossary. As you can see there is a the drop down list for Add a resource and Add an activity. What I did was dropped down the box for Add an Activity and chose, forum one time and then choose Assignments another time. In this case of the forum, I put in a name of Testing inclusion for the forum name. That then created a forum entry under topic 2. I am trying to delete the forum Testing inclusion that is associated with Topic 2. Attached is the screen shot that shows all the forums that have been created with topic 2, but I cannot find a way to delete them.
Is it possible for you to set up an account and assign it as an instructor in your course so that someone could actually go take a look?
Maybe a real guru will drop by and tell you something that the rest of us missed!
Okay, I have found what the problem is, but don't know how to correct it. In the screen shot attached. I am abble to add activities and everything to that topic and they show up with the ability to delete, them and everything, but when I am adding activities and resouces to any of the other topics they are not showing up under that topic like they are in topic 0. Does anybody know how to get my activities to be displayed in all the other topics than just topic 0.
It may be an unclosed tag in the html of your topic summary (I've seen that happen a couple times when folks paste in content from a web page or html editor). You may need to open the summary, try clicking the "clean up word html" button in the editor. If that doesn't work, you may need to go into the html of the summary (click the code button in the editor)and look for unclosed html tags. Or paste the summary into something like notepad, delete the summary, make sure you can add an activity, and then paste it back in.
You certainly seem to stumbled onto a very puzzling problem.
One thing you don't seem to have mentioned is details of your setup e.g. windows Mac, or linux, version of mysql, version of php, version of Moodle etc. This info may help someone with more knowledge figure out what's happening.
One reason why it's difficult to help you is that you did not state your problem clearly from the start, and your subsequent postings are getting more and more confusing.
#1 In your very first post you stated "I can Add a resource to a topic without any issues, but if I accidently created a resource for a topic, I wish to be able to delete it and not finding any way to do so."
#2 In your post dated Saturday, 20 May 2006, 04:55 AM you write "In the screen shot attached. I am abble to add activities and everything to that topic [topic 0] and they show up with the ability to delete, them and everything, but when I am adding activities and resouces to any of the other topics [1, 2, etc.] they are not showing up under that topic like they are in topic 0. Does anybody know how to get my activities to be displayed in all the other topics than just topic 0."
Could you please answer these questions:
a) can you add resources and activities to any topic other than Topic #0 ?
b) can you delete resources & activities which you have managed to add to Topic #0?
b) have you tried adding a resource or activity to a topic other than Topic #0 without having edited that Topic summary first? i.e. go to any empty Topic, do not edit the Summary label, and add a resource or activity from the drop-down box. What happens then exactly? Do you get error messages?
Then maybe we can help,
Sorry my postings have been confusing, I don't know much about moodle and learning a lot.
Yes, I can add resources and activities to all of the Topics
Yes I can delete resources & activities that I have managed to add to Topic #0.
I have created a new course and have been successfully able to added/delete activities to any of the Topic #'s.
For some reason just this one course has been affected, in which activities that have been added to the other topics such as Topic #1 are not being displayed within that topic allow me to delete them.
Which theme are you using? Can you check to see if this issue occurs with, say, the Standard theme. I've encountered missing icon issues which have been theme specific in the past.
Worth a try (I hope ).
Unfortunately changing the them back to standard did not resolve the issue. I believe we are just going to have to copy everything down, delete the course and add it back.
Thanks, for the idea.
