You attach a picture to the question not the answers.
The picture should have your choices labeled.
We do this for CAD Assessments.  See attached.

CAD and moodle

by Osman Sadeck -

Hello Don & others

I am a curriculum advisor and I have to sometimes do teacher (development)training in CAD (we use AutoCAD, TurboCAD & AllyCAD) - I have been searching for a way to do this training online - Perhaps someone can help...:

How do you use Moodle for CAD - Are there courses already developed that someone could access. Has anyone used Moodle thru online to teach CAD without any face to face contact?

What I can offer is this link where one can access and download a free student copy of AllyCAD  http://www.knowbase.co.za/ - I have found that at school level this program is more that adequate to teach CAD

Cheers - Osman

Osman,  My site is CADLearning.com and our company has been developing Autodesk user training since AutoCAD 2000.   As an Authorized Autodesk Publisher we cover the entire product line.  AutoCAD, LT, Inventor, MAP, ADT, Land Desktop, Electrical, Survey etc.

The video tutorials were first developed for CD and last year we started migrating to the Moodle platform.

CADLearning.com is the retail end-user site from which we have links to our Private Managed Corporate CADLearning Center.  The private site model is being used by Architects, Engineering firms and large coporate engineering groups.
We are right now in the process of working out the business model for delivering our content to schools who have Moodle in place.  I've yet to build any SCORM.

Any input on content delivery models is greatly appreciated.
We have a system of state tech schools ready to take content as Moodle course backups but they'd like us to find a method to managed student lab charges.   I think we'll end up with some sort of Hive or other repository setup that schools can tap.

As a side note, the boss has finally agreed to start making Moodle donations as the business gets rolling.  I'd love to hear how other content providers compensate for the enabling technology.

Don

I have looked into both sites and get what is being done here.

You asked about content delivery-- If I went a step away from learning the CAD environment and technical quiz online...then what would there be for me to do?---Apply the knowledge & skills in an authentic setting(exercise) - If I had to design the online content for schools,I would use the school curriculum(pick out what basics, what advanced, tools, skills, etc) and tailor or incorporate these into the 'learning CAD' - then I would design, use, adapt exercises online for the learners to do as application within the sylabus - these could be graded from reproductive, application of knowledge & skills to design-- all as required

I have some application exercises that could be useful at www.wcape.school.za/sadeck/ - They were designed for grade 10 engineering graphics in South African schools

Cheers Osman

Hi Don,
I should not be going on here in Social.  But I think this is a great example of how a question stimulates things in unexpected ways.   I went to MoodleDocs, I sort of looked around Quiz forum  (wow XLM Word template for questions, that would help you) and Lesson forum but nobody was talking about inserting images as answers.  So I went back to MoodleDocs to add a section on how to add images to lesson questions.

My sandboxs are acting up in lesson, my html editor did not fire up when I check the box in question when I was doing the step by step instruction.  As a result I stumbled upon a way to add pictures to answers/choices in both the Lesson and Quiz modules.  Did this in Version 1.6

I asked the question: "who was the cutest Collman kid?" I was able to insert the following text into choice 1 which linked to a photo.

<img title="2" alt="2" src="http://127.0.0.1/file.php/2/Collman_Chris_age6.JPG" border="0" height="212" hspace="0" vspace="0" width="300" />

Of course this  cute picture is not available to you, since it is on my localhost.  However you should be able to duplicate and probably improve upon my procedure below.

Being bald, I let the editor do the work.    I made sure the images could be grabbed with the insert image icon.  In my case I had a bunch of images associated with the course the quiz was located in.   After I inserted the image into the question content area (I did not use "insert image to display" but the HTML icon), I went from WYSIWYG to text, cut the above image link from the text and pasted it into Choice 1.   I repeated this process with 3 other  pictures.

If I had pic001a, pic001b etc instead of Collman_Chris_age6, Collman_Jim_age2 and so forth, then I would keep pasting the same link into the next choice and merely change the letter trailer.

Will this help you?

Chris

This question belongs in Lesson or Quiz forum. Here is a way in the Lesson module. I have not tried it in Quiz, probably similar.

Moodle is little quirky ( for programming reasons) in inserting pictures into answers. Here is the way it is susposed to work. Insert your question into the lesson. Remember the page title (important step for bald guys). Maybe type in your question. Save the question with the Add question button at the bottom, then the "continue".

Find the question you just saved. Edit the question. Now you will see a place to check "Use Editor" next to each of the answers and responses. Check off the boxes you want, click on redisplay at the bottom. You should see the html editor tool bar above the responces you checked off. Reading the help (?) will give you more info at this point.

Currently I have trouble with this feature in my sandboxes (1.5 and 1.6) but it works just fine on our production web system that is 1.5.3 Stable. I have a work around if you do the above and don't see the HTML editor tool bar. Ask it here or in the Lesson Forum : Click here for Lesson Forum

Also see MoodleDocs, maybe click here for MoodleDoc lessons.

The CAD type solution also has its place in a teacher's bag of tricks.

Even if in the "wrong" place, thanks for the question. Hope this helps. Chris

Chris, thank you and thank you again! How cool is this! I have used your image code and adjusted the HTTP and the size of the objects, and there they are!!  Great stuff! Ciao! Ingrid.
