Just show link to avi file in HTML block

I am adding an HTMl block as a side bar.  When I place a link to an avi file within the editor and save it the actual avi file appears on the course home page.  That is great!  However, if there a way to just show the link and then have the avi file appear when i click on it from the course homepage as a side block.  I realize that I can put it as a link in the center of the page in a weekly or topic formatted course.  However, I want it to appear on the side of the page.  Any help would be appreciated!

What you could do is create a simple webpage in for example Frontpage with your video in it. then save this webpage into your course files and just create a link to that file. It should then open in a new window. Hope that helps.
