Does the MOODLE build on the web services?

Any Idea or thoughts,

Idea about

What are web services?

Web Services will transform the web from a collection of information into a distributed computational device. Web Services are uncomplicated, self contained applications which achieve functions, from easy requests to difficult business process. The invocation of WSs normally purely happens through a machine-to-machine communication, without a user interface on the computer to call the WS. WS model uses Web Services Description Language (WSDL), Universal Description Discovery and Integration (UDDI) and Simple Object Application Protocol (SOAP). A WSDL description is retrieved from the UDDI directory and allows the software systems of one business to extend to use those of the other directly [1, 2, 3].

Web services are a new breed of Web application. They are self-contained, self describing, modular applications that can be published, located, and invoked across the Web. Web services perform functions, which can be anything from simple requests to complicated business processes. ... Once a Web service is deployed, other applications (and other Web services) can discover and invoke the deployed service [1]

The WWW Consortium [4] has defined WS as a software application identified by URI, whose interfaces and binding are capable of being defined, described and discovered by XML artefacts and supports direct interactions with other software applications using XML based messages via internet-based protocolsW3C Working Group Note, Web Services Architecture Requirements, 11 February 2004, http://www.w3.org/TR/wsa-reqs/#id2604787
