Just my 2p worth...

Eurostar is really worth the effort, you slip out of Paris and then hurtle across France towards the coast, going past minor stations at 100+ mph (I think?) is something else. It lands you right at Waterloo (a lovely irony, the French English train ends up at a station named after a battle between us) which is elegant, landing at one of our airports is much less impressive and you then have to travel into the city.  Book in advance and travel at a quiet time to save money.

Not sure what you are doing when at the Moot but I would suggest avoiding Milton Keynes for Hotels (which is a tip for everyone attending the Moot).  MK hotels in my experience are dreadful, lots of UK companies set up HQs in MK and there aren't enough hotels so they can offer you indifferent service and charge whacking prices.  You have to book them very in advance too.
