Moodle 2.5.3+ (Build: 20131129)
Just wondering if it was possible to hide or disable fields in user profiles. Just so there where were limited options for the students
please see attached the items i was wanting to remove/hide are in the green boxes.

Hi Craig,
If you're able to upgrade to a supported version of Moodle (3.9 or above - see Releases | Moodle Developer Resources), you'll find that some of the settings you want to hide have been moved to Preferences in the user menu. Other settings can be hidden by adding CSS to your theme, as described by a community member, Michael Milette, in the post Moodle 3.x LMS: Show/Hide Profile Sections and Fields.
Upgrading to a supported version is also highly recommended to ensure that your site is secure.
