Hi Terence

Am hesitant and am not responding as a 'GURU' , but I am very interested in constructivism. - The article is interesting and the nature of constructivism allows for one to construct meanings in given context. This is just what Jerome is doing in the article. It is well argued and makes sense.

I note with interest the overriding point in the paper -"The point is then made that constructivism is not theory of teaching, but a theory of learning. " This could be argued differently on the basis that the act of teaching could also be a construct of how the teacher makes meaning of his/her role in the learning/teaching  situation and acts accordingly. Also making meaning of teaching is not only considering it as a means to provide good learning opportunities but also draws on values, experiences, culture, etc. - so these are ideas that could be contested further and progresses from the assumptions that one begins with. e.g. is teaching & learning linked?

As a theory of learning it makes good sense as learning can happen without teaching (formal or otherwise)

if you feel like more reading for yourself try this site - it has useful information as well:http://www.cdli.ca/~elmurphy/emurphy/cle.html or go to google search and look for Elizabeth Murphy
