I'm not sure why it would be "more customary" to name classes with a capital letter - the Moodle coding guidelines ( https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Coding_style#Classes ) make it clear that classes should be lowercase (which would be why other developers haven't been seeing the problem you had here).
