Moodle does a .com and a .org.

What are the pros and cons of having wordpress and moodle installed on different domains?

Also, what do you recommend for a hosting provider?

Thanks!

No issues, unless you happen to be using (for example) a particular integration that requires them to be on different domains.

Moodle .com and .org are different sites. One is the site of Moodle Pty Ltd, a commercial company, the other is the site of the Moodle open source community. The separate domain names have nothing to do with one being Wordpress and one being Moodle. Moodle.org also has other non-Moodle web applications hosted on it, that are used by the community: tracker.moodle.org and docs.moodle.org for example.
