Running STACK on a non-root cloud server

Running STACK on a non-root cloud server

Hello,

this is a question on the pre-requisites for running STACK on a rental cloud server.

A friend of mine [tm-tutor](https://demo-en.tm-tutor.de/) has installed moodle and STACK but can't run maxima locally (he says that would require to rent a root server).

So he thinks that he needs access to a maxima pool server in order to run STACK.

As I sort of pushed him to use STACK (and JSXGraph with Meclib), I am interested in the solution of that problem. So my questions are:

- Has anyone successfully got up and running a full blown STACK instance on a non-root cloud server?

- Should that be possible in principle or is a root server a must? Is it expected behaviour that he could install moodle and STACK but not maxima?

- Could he possibly get access to a maxima pool server? I am not really sure what that is, but his STACK installation seems to ask for such thing.

So I just want to see if there is any reaction here in the forum and then hand over for further discussion. Thanks for any advice.

I don't think that 'root server' is a common term for whatever you are trying to describe.

The most conveniently packaged way of running the Maxima stuff that STACK requires is provided by the Mathematical Institute of Goettingen. See https://projects.gwdg.de/projects/netzwerk-mathe-digital/wiki/stack-maxima-pool-technical-details. I suggest contacting them.
