I'd suggest adding the M4 codebase and performing the initial upgrade with that only (no plugins). Then add the plugins one at a time to discover which one may be causing the issue - or if it is the core upgrade itself.

Hi Richard, sort of did that and found that the problem was the Snap theme plugin, which I have now removed. Shame, great layout that one.
