Hello Miro,

Judging from Michael Borcherds's message ↗, we now need to install the "Geogebra question type" plugin from GitHub. It's very easy, you just have to follow the instructions, that is, simply place all the files in the "geogebra" directory. I tried it on Moodle 3.10 and it works fine.

Tom Killoran made a very nice video about the Geogebra question. It is a little dated but is still relevant today: (It's probably Tom's dog on the home screen.)

I attach an XML file of a Geogebra question. This is a very simple example for testing. It is simply a matter of moving a point inside a circle.

I also attach the same little Geogebra problem but brilliantly done, by David Galiana, with the Formulas question.

Thanks. I thought somebody has the full bundle for GeoGebra as is for STACK type of questions, but I am glad also with this one example.

Hello Miro,

I have reproduced the question presented in Tom Killoran's video.

The applet is available at https://www.geogebra.org/m/rbvf4qzh ↗.

I could not resolve the following small issues:

  1. The "Graphics 2" pane of Geogebra does not appear in the Geogebra question.
  2. Whether the applet is obtained using the URL or the ID of the Geogebra worksheet, or using a ggb file, the new equation on a new attempt can take several tens of seconds to load in the Geogebra question, which is far too long.
  3. The answer feedback for each variable does not appear in the Geogebra question.
  4. When the question is 'embedded' as at https://moodleformulas.org/course/view.php?id=35&section=26 ↗ (where you will find the question), the applet does not render well because the numbers are much too small.

Apart from these little problems, this Geogebra question is working properly and you can use it as an example.

In fact, the problems boil down to these:

  1. On a new attempt, the equation is updated only when moving the mouse over the graph area then off of it.
  2. The answer feedbacks for the variables are not displayed.

Otherwise, the question works fine:

Hello Miro,

Could you create a Geogebra question with the Tom Killoran's applet that I reproduced from his video, available at https://www.geogebra.org/m/rbvf4qzh ↗, and tell me if you have the same two bugs?

Hi,

in the edited question preview the applet showed once. After saving the question and previewing again it did not show up - only white space is there...

As I see the applet is read externaly from https://www.geogebra.org/m/rbvf4qzh ... would be better to have applets ready in the local Moodle installation and edited/debugged for our purposes (language etc).

Well, as I checked, one has to prepare first working applet in the geogebra web space, and afterwards link it into your Moodle question...

Hello Miro,

"only white space is there..." . I thought this bug had been fixed by the maintainer of the plugin. See if this helps you: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=404287#p1631804 ↗.

You can get the applet in the Moodle Geogebra question from geogegra.org or from a ggb file. It doesn't make any difference because the applet gets built into the question anyway.[Reference: I am not sure. I think Tom Killoran mentions it in his video.]

Let me know if you have the two bugs I mentioned in my previous post.

You can find more examples at https://moodleformulas.org/course/view.php?id=78&section=45 ↗ and https://moodleformulas.org/course/view.php?id=78&section=25 ↗.

Hello Dominique,
concerning Tom Killoran's example, still can not fix it ... I do not dare to modify CSS setting of our Moodle installation.
Thanks for other examples. They are, however, under formulas question I have no experience with..

Likewise, GeoGebra stuff seems to be too complicated to develop it further  for teaching at our university Moodle installation...

Hello Miro,

I do not dare to modify CSS setting of our Moodle installation.

Do not worry. You can change the CSS for a single quiz or even for a single page if you want, and undo any changes very easily.

GeoGebra stuff seems to be too complicated...

Don't get discouraged so quickly. Go gradually. I suggest you start over with a simple example.

  1. Download the attached question which in XML format.
  2. Create a quiz.
  3. In the main quiz page, click the gear icon and select Question bank / Import.
  4. Import the downloaded question.
  5. Add the question to your quiz.
  6. Run the quiz.

The question is simply about moving a point inside a circle. Can you get it to work?

Hello Dominique,
thanks for your example from https://www.geogebra.org/m/nbe9sfzf . Unfortunately, Moodle question preview is showing only white space... I attached the working example which I got previously.

Likewise I am missing good Moodle documentation for geogebra question, https://docs.moodle.org/39/en/question/type/geogebra

I view GeoGebra as a very good project but - as a chemistry teacher - I am missing good tutorials for GeoGebra Moodle question. On the GeoGebra side, https://www.geogebra.org/ , there is a lot of examples, but I am missing on how to turn them into Moodle questions...

How did you end up resolving the following issue? I am getting the same one.

  1. The "Graphics 2" pane of Geogebra does not appear in the Geogebra question.

I will specify: the graphics 2 does appear in the applet preview when I am in the moodle question editor, but does not appear when I preview the Moodle question.
