Dear Moodle Community,
I have an idea for a plugin that I want to write. I will aim to fund the project myself (effectively by being self-employed for a few months) while I write the plugin and then hope to recoup costs through licensing my plugin. I appreciate that Moodle is Open Source but need to try and cover living costs to bring my idea into fruition. I do not have any sponsorship.
I read on this Quora post:
"Second, you can develop your own plug ins, add ons, or templates for Moodle and license those. There are some companies that do this."
Firstly, would I be correct in thinking that after I have written the plugin, I can sell/license it? However, I cannot prevent anyone from then giving it away, or also selling it?
Secondly, if I leave my details (for example name, linkedin handle) in the PHP file, can people edit this out and remove acknowledgement of my work?
Thirdly, if I use a function from another Moodle plugin (licensed under GNU), do I have to exclude this from my plugin. Can I put the file (with all links/details about the original work/location) in a PHP file for free download and then explain that it needs to be added into the project?
Finally, I appreciate Moodle is a trademarked name. Am I allowed to say that I have written a plugin for use in Moodle on my website or is that going to far? Can I add it into the requirements section?
