Are there User and course limits with hosting Moodle offline

Are there User and course limits with hosting Moodle offline

Hi there,

I am looking to host Moodle totally offline and with no access to the internet. I am looking to find out what the limitations there are for number of users and course creation?

Reading from the pricing plan, it says there is a limit of 50 users but is this for the cloud based standard plans. If I go over 50 users on a locally offline site, will the user creation funtionallty disable itself? Similarly with course creation, is there a baked in limit with an offline plan?

Cheers all!

It appears that you might be talking about MoodleCloud's limit of 50 users with the lowest pricing plan (as I recall.) If so, MoodleCloud is always "online."

If you want to install Moodle on a local computer and not use it with the Internet, you can, by using one of the AMP products (e.g., MAMP, XAMPP, etc.)

Hi

As Rick has guessed, you must be looking at https://moodle.com/moodlecloud/. It is a service (Moodle software as a service), consequently the maximum numbers are fixed depending on the package.

Then there is the Open Source Software Moodle which is available at https://download.moodle.org/. This is the software, well say for 99%, behind the service above. If you can run this on your own, DIY style, nobody is limiting your numbers. Well, the hardware (material) is always limited. And system software too have limits, but they are so far away, you can think of them as infinite.

Thanks for answering my questions, thats perfect. Yes I got Moodle working on WAMP. Extremlly pleased with the ease of setup and if no user limits offline, then im good to go.

Cheers guys!

Glad you got is sorted out so quickly. One thing I didn't mention explicitly: The limits comes from hosting. If you look after the hosting there is also no (artificial) limits to those numbers.

Background: Moodle is GPL licensed, GPL 3 to be specific, with its four freedoms. Read https://docs.moodle.org/dev/License (and enjoy its creator's talks on-line, if you are not too politically sensitive ;) ).

How about MOODLE APP usage on a totally offline hosted Moodle over WAMP as well? Will the 2 courses download at a time limit take effect?

This is not about the Moodle service but the Mobile App, the client. So belongs to Moodle for Mobile https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=7798.

See this recent issue https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=424353#p1739449 and a possible solution https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=424353#p1739474.
