Where are you trying to add the Main Menu block? It can only be added to the front page.
It won’t appear in the “Add block” dropdown in any other context.

Are you using the dashboard at the default home page? The main menu block can only be added to the front page of your site.
The screenshot in your original posts looks as though you were adding it to a site admin page.
If you’re still having problems, can you posts screenshots with more of the page in view, and the url (you can miss out the domain if you wish) if the page you’re trying to add the block to.

Ok - are you sure it hadn’t already been added to the front page? You can only add it once.
And what does it show at Site admin > Plugins > Blocks > Manage blocks? Is the Main menu block listed? What is the number in the second column? Is it set to visible and/or unlocked?
Yes, I add on the home page.

I noticed that the calendar is also unavailable. Someone hid the blocks, but how? The calendar is visible in the courses invisible from the main page.
