I'm pretty new to Moodle and using 3.11. I'm in the process of moving a face-to-face diploma course to a blended learning environment. I have an overall teaching programme made up of modules. Some of the modules are online, some are delivered face-to-face. I need to have records of what students have achieved and I want to do this all in Moodle so it's all in one place.
I'm using completion tracking and the sub-courses plugin to create an overview course that tracks progress through the overall teaching programme. My problem is that I need a way to track attendance of face-to-face modules. These modules are not individually assessed (there's no mark per module... students are tested on material from multiple modules at the end of the programme). What I need is a way to create an activity for face-to-face modules that is a single tick box. The student should not be able to tick the tick box - that can only be done by a teacher so as to register that the student has attended. The student can then see that the tick box has been ticked and this should result in that module being shown as completed by the completion tracking (and hence reflected into the overview course).
I've tried a range of different plugins (including checklist, attendance and attendance register) and none seem to do what I want. My problem is that, whatever I do, I have no criteria to use to determine completion. I need to set it so that the student can't mark the activity as complete, but there seems to be no option in any of these plugins for the teacher being able to mark the activity as complete. If I block the student from marking the activity as complete, the only way I can flag completion is to set a pass grade, but I don't have any grades in the activity.
I can't help thinking I'm missing something obvious here. Please can anyone suggest a way of doing this?
