autocomplete form for tags: use semicolon as a separator, just like the comma

Hi,

when adding tags to a course, forum, etc., the autocomplete form for tags interprets the comma as a separator. This means that pressing the comma key is handled the same way as pressing enter, which I think is a good idea.

The semicolon is handled as a "normal character". In my understanding, it should be handled the same way as the comma, our students are sometimes confused about the different behavior. Therefore, my suggestion is to use both comma and semicolon as separators, see tracker issue MDL-71427.

Before spending any further effort, it would be helpful to get some opinions from the community. wink

  • Do you think the semicolon should be used as a separator the same way as the comma?
  • Do you have any examples where tags with a semicolon (or comma) are used? I have none, in my understanding, a tag is a single word, eventually with a '-', but not with a ',' or ';' ...

Best regards
Matthias
