It appears this plugin has been abandoned. It's not been updated in 3 years. The Lead Maintainer (Clem Smith) has not logged into moodle.org for 3 years, and it's not possible to contact him through moodle.org's internal messaging system  (https://moodle.org/message/index.php?id=1894540 returns an error).

The institution, University of Minnesota, where the maintainer (see link on plugin's github page https://github.com/at-tools) was based, no longer runs Moodle (https://vetmed.umn.edu/education/educational-support/moodle).

I have posted  an issue on the massaction github page with a link to this issue - https://github.com/at-tools/moodle-block_massaction/issues/43.

From what I've seen of Moodle 4.0, it's possible this plugin should not be needed after its release. We don't use it a great deal, but some users do use it. I don't really have the resources to support this plugin, so if someone else can take it on board, I think the community would appreciate it.

Since trying to contact the maintainer, I've not heard anything and there has been no activity on their github page. @syxton (https://github.com/Syxton) is currently maintaining a fork, so I suppose it makes sense, and if he wants it, to transfer Lead Maintainer to @syxton.

On May 24th 2021 I was asked by Pablo Etcheverry if I would be willing to become the lead on massactions. I told him that I would, but I never heard back about it. I am still willing to be lead on it. It is "unofficially" in a really good place due in large part to a major reworking by Philipp Memmel. It is a plugin that my faculty are very fond of, so as long as I can, I plan to keep it running on the latest Moodle.

Hi Mark Sharp,

thank you for picking up on that. Could you please elaborate why this plugin will not be needed from Moodle 4.0 on? I haven't discovered a similar feature in moodle core yet.

I would definitely appreciate if this plugin could be officially maintained again. I've also sent a PR with a full rework of this plugin to @sixton's repository and I'm going to adapt it to Moodle 4.0 more or less "soon" glimlach If this PR will be merged I'd be happy to contribute to the (hopefully then officially maintained) plugin glimlach

Sure. In M4 you'll be able to move whole sections far more easily (drag'n'drop) from the left nav. But I made that comment a long time ago before there was any M4 code and I haven't yet started looking much at what M4 actually is like now.

Thank you for your feedback. Moving sections around is already possible in Moodle 3(.11) in many course formats. The typical use case of the massaction plugin, however, would rather be being able to select specific course modules and execute actions on them (especially hide/view, duplicate, move to another section etc.). I haven't found a similar functionality in Moodle 4.0 yet.

Of course, I already upvoted MDL-20213, maybe, after the up-to-date rework and the adaption of the plugin for 4.0, there is a chance to get this functionality in moodle core. Especially the injecting of the checkboxes for selecting the specific course modules really should be somewhere in the core code, everything else feels like a suboptimal approach.

Thank you Mark for the initiative and sorry for not noticing earlier that there is an actual volunteer to take the maintenance over.

Process-wise, I just contacted Clem Smith officially as per https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Plugins_adoption_programme#Initiating_forced_adoption. If I don't hear back in 30 days, I am more than happy to make @Syxton the new lead maintainer of the plugin starting from Monday 14 March 2022.
