You might check out setting up your servers SMTP relay with SendGrid ... API Key. SendGrid not totally free ... think the freebie cap is 10000 and anything over is X.
Reason SendGrid is better ... requires no additional DNS records be created for your Moodle server and the API key method of SMTP allows same key to be used in multiple servers (should you need to break apart your customers later).
