As far as my understanding goes: At the moment you can use competencies in Moodle as a teacher by doing a lot by hand. But I would like most of this work to be automated.
So here is what I am looking for.
According to local requirements, we have to rate competencies at four levels - which is not a problem to set up. However, in our courses we use a lot of automatically graded activities (or even assignments). But at the moment I don't see any way how I can automatically assign a student a high level of competency who has done very well in one of these activities, and a low level of competency to a student who has done less well.
Doing that by hand is not only tedious (you don't see the points of an assignment or quiz in the competency overview, but also prone to error. And I don't really see the point of copying/replicating digitally available information by hand within the same system.
The second problem I have: Some acitivities (rich in pedagogical content) are linked to several competencies, but as far as I see I can't award one of several competencies automatically whereas another one is just used as reverance.
All these problems are in stark contrast to the fine grained possibilities when restricting activities depending on prior achievements Moodle already provides.
That's why I want to ask whether there ary any plans to make the whole compentency framework more flexible? That would certainly save teachers a lot of time and frustration with teadious paper work.
In case my conception of the possibilities and limitations of competencies are wrong, I'm more than happy to stand corrected.
