I need to allow the role of senior trainer to be able to edit a users profile if they are having login problems. I have updated the permissions to allow the User to Edit user profiles but that has not worked.
Does anyone have any ideas?

To enable the senior trainer to edit a user's profile, they must have a system role (i.e. you assign them the role via Site administration > Users > Permissions > Assign system roles) with the edit user profiles capability allowed. It doesn't work if you allow the capability for a role such as Teacher which is then assigned in the course context.
