Moodle Workplace 3.9 or 3.10 - merge accounts

Hi all!

Is there a way to merge accounts in 3.9 or 3.10? When we were in 3.8, there was a merge plugin, which worked well. 

That said, is there something that admins can do a merge now?   

The vendor we have has offered to do a merge accounts for us as a bulk merge, which is great, though we want to be able to do the merge account or accounts ourselves so we can do it daily/ad hoc.

We don't have access to the "back" part of this, so any assistance is appreciated.

Hi,

I'm not a specialist of Moodle Workplace. I just can say that there is a plugin allowing to merge accounts : https://moodle.org/plugins/tool_mergeusers

But for the moment, it's officially compatible with Moodle 3.7 max.

I would also add that, whilst this plugin works in most cases (and I'm not aware of any alternative, either as a plugin or as a part of the core code in Moodle Workplace), it should generally be regarded as a last resort. Moodle user data structures are not designed with account merging in mind (nor are 3rd-party plugins planned that way). It is always likely that some bits of data will be missed or conflict during the merge.
In general, you are far better reviewing your user journey / processes to avoid the need to merge user accounts, rather than trying to find technical ways to handle the merge itself.

Thank you, Davo. At this point, we're trying to clean up our LMS, so we need to do it. I was just hoping that there was an alternative way to merge accounts to reduce the amount we have and to fix the issue of multiple accounts. We used the plugin in the past as there wasn't another way. I appreciate your response and hoping others may provide what they've used with Moodle Workplace. Wishing you well and thanks.

Hi Therese,

Couldn't agree more with Davo, Moodle user data structures are not designed with that in mind and this is also true for Moodle Workplace.
We don't offer any specific feature for account merging, and any existing plugin will not probably take into account Workplace plugins so they will be less effective with Workplace.

Your Moodle Partner will know better if/how accounts on your site can be merged.
