can anyone help with making PDF,s read-only for students to access the books we have for them in PDF format?

The software that you're creating the pdfs with should allow you to set options for preventing copying, preventing printing, etc.
There's nothing to stop a reader scanning it (potentially with OCR/text recognition too), taking a photo of it, emailing it to colleagues though. Nothing is foolproof.
