I am using the dreaded cron (which seems to be a major source of problems for most) and I think it is working ok (sve for the occaisional library bug that creeps back into messaging and forums).
What I want to know is how the cron actually functions. From my understanding, it is set to run and invoked at whatever frequency you choose in your crontab file. But then it seems that not all tasks are croned (?) at the frequencly you define.
- It looks like modules are only cronned about 20% of the time, is that right?
- Does this mean that it is possible for the forum module (for example) not to send out emails to users every cron?
- Also, why does running the cron log the user out? Could this sefely be disabled to run a cron from an iframe or similar?
Had a look in the documentation and this does not cover these sort of issues, only the technical aspects of getting it to run, but they are of interest and use so anything you can contribute there http://docs.moodle.org/en/Cron would be welcome as well I am sure!
