Embedded Question in a Book

Embedded Question in a Book

I've started to use the OU plugin for adding questions to a book. There seem to be some odd behavior. For example when I "try again" having entered a wrong answer as shown here

the answer boxes are not blank, as shown below. It remembers the wrong answer.

Can this behaviour be switched off?

Any information much appreciated.

That is very weird. It should not do that!

Are you using https://moodle.org/plugins/report_embedquestion along-side https://moodle.org/plugins/filter_embedquestion? That is what I would recommend - it is what we are running ourselves. It could be that some of our recent changes have broken the part of the filter when it is running on its own, and we just have not noticed that case, because we never test it any more.

Hi Tim, Thanks for getting back to me. My moodle site is hosted by Hubken Group and is currently version 3.9.1. They did the plugin instal but I checked and these are the versions I have installed.

Looking more carefully at your documentation I notice that these are not the current versions so I'll ask for them to be updated.

Apart from that does look ok? Are there any other settings or parameters that I'm missing?

I also posted about the use of WIRIS quiz question types with this plugin. I was curious do the OU have experience using WIRIS questions or any collaborations? They seem very good for STEM style questions.

Thanks for any advice you may have. Dave Lancefield

We don't use those question types.

A useful test would be to try different question types. If the problem only happens with some question types, the but is probably with those question types. If it happens with all question types, then the problem is with the embedding system (but I have not seen that issue.)

Dear Tim, Yes - but takes some time.

Anyway, I tried this with most question types from the core that are worth embedding, i.e. computer marked, and they all worked fine! So then went back to the original question which had the odd behaviour and it was still odd. Finally, I wrote it again as a new question but with the same content and it now works fine! Bloody hell! There must be something in the old version of the question that causes a problem! So sorry to waste your time. But worth bearing in mind in case it happens again.

For information, I also tried a smaller range of WIRIS question types. They all render fine initially but then produce errors when trying to feed back an answer. I will talk more with WIRIS but thought it might be useful to know in case anyone else asks. Best wishes Dave
