Four Months too Late but...
Since I moved from a very old Moodle to a fairly old Moodle I have had to find and replace a lot of text.
There is a Firefox add-in

that is proving very useful to me for finding and replacing within text in an editor. It keeps a history and allows me to set book marked find and replaceS and has the option to find and replace all in the page, but only one page at a time.
When I was still the administrator of the Moodle I was using I used to use the database find and replace, and also I used to access the database directly using a free database editor, HeidiSQL.
