We've been experiencing this issue for not 1, but on our 3 sites, we can't really find something common on their configurations so we can't figure out what really is the problem. So when we do the "Test outgoing mail configuration", the page would be stuck loading for a while only to return this error (when I turn on debugging)
All 3 sites has the same behavior. We're pretty sure that the SMTP Credentials are correct. We already tried using different email/smtp services (GMail, Yahoo, AWS SES, Outlook, Office365, SendinBlue) but it all returns the same error.
We did the basic troubleshooting for possible solutions and at one point, we even moved one site to an all new server but the issue it still there.
For additional background, all
sites are hosted on a dedicated server (Linode) , all Ubuntu OS. All
sites are freshly installed by the time we discovered this issue, the
SMTP was not working from the get go.
