Hey All
I am new to moodle and our company is looking to test moodle out, I can moodle can be installed on windows and linux.
Not having much experiences of linux is there any downside to installing moodle on windows.

The majority of Moodle development and the majority of site deployments are on Linux so the downsides mainly relate to support:
- When asking questions on these forums you may get fewer (or no) replies because fewer people are using Microsoft Windows.
- When reporting issues on the Tracker there may be less interest in resolving the issue if it's harder for others to investigate and the issue may affect fewer people.
- If looking for paid-for support there are fewer companies with experience of supporting Moodle on Windows.
This isn't to put you off, there are Moodle sites happily running on Microsoft Windows but you may have to do a bit more support in-house.
A recommendation: on Windows I've always found using IIS much more reliable than Apache.

Running Moodle on a Windows Server under IIS is supported - I've been running Moodle on that platform for 50000+ registered users and over 300 courses for several years.
It does take some effort to fine tune the environment for best performance and you need good hardware, but it certainly does work.
However, if you do have the option, it would probably be easier to use a Linux OS instead of Windows. There's limited community support for Windows, while there are lots of Linux community experts to offer support.
If you just want to test Moodle then you could use a Docker Container. It will save some effort getting it running. See: https://blog.programster.org/deploy-moodle-with-docker

Moodle will run on all sorts of configurations but if you want support *here* then it's better to "do what everybody else does". Run one of the common Linux distros (Ubuntu, CentOS - for now), MySQL and so on. Once you have got that working and gained some experience you can go out on your own if you like.
While there are some very experienced Windows users in these forums there are many more Linux types.

A notable omission, the mother ship of Ubuntu Linux, Debian GNU/Linux! (Of course, we mean them installed as servers, not desktops.)

My apologies 
I really meant not to read "Install on Linux" and then install on Mageia Linux or even some BDS variant or Solaris (or even some supposed NAS boxes). If it goes wrong you're unlikely to find any help.
