I am using Moodle for quite some time, it is used at my institution, and use a lot the quiz tool.
I recently discovered what I first thought was a bug, until I discovered it was a feature:
For some "short answer" questions, Moodle graded erroneously some bad answers as good answers!
I discovered this accidentally, and had to manually re-grade every given answer to check (Not too bad, only 50-60 students).
Example: correct answer: "A*", student answer "Ab" => accepted !
So you got it, I got fooled by the "wildcard feature": https://docs.moodle.org/35/en/Short-Answer_question_type
While I understand the usefulness of this feature, I feel there should be a way to disable it. My use case is mostly about IT tech and computer science, where I expect students to give some exact strings (that may indeed hold the asterisk character).
So I have the following questions:
- Could some experienced user confirm that there is no way to disable this feature? (couldn't find)
- Is there a place where I could post this issue as a "feature request" ? Is https://tracker.moodle.org/ the correct place?
- Does anybody know if the "Regex short answer" plugin (https://docs.moodle.org/35/en/Regular_Expression_Short-Answer_question_type) would make this possible? I had a look but it seems quite overkill for my needs (which are basically just disabling the wildcard feature!).
