Reading ADODB source makes me wonder if PEAR is out of the question for Moodle...wouldn't it require a major rewrite?
I'm just wondering where that fits in the long term view.
PEAR is not always available, and isn't yet as good as ADOdb.

I dunno.. PEAR is folded in with Php (at least it was on my distro) and even when it wasn't it was easy to add.
This doesn't help people on web hosts without PEAR.
