Is there a way to connect cohorts or groups in a two way manner to courses?

Hi,

I'm using cohorts to register students to courses - But when I add someone new to such a cohort he is not registered to the courses the cohort was registered to.

So when I register a cohort to a course - all the existing members in this cohort will be registered to the course, but any change I'll do in the cohort after that will not be reflected in the course - right?

Is there another way to connect cohorts or groups in a two way manner so any change I'll do in the cohort or group will be automatically update in all the relevant courses ?

When you add a student to a cohort they are enrolled in any active courses the cohort is linked to.
Maybe look at your CRON jobs, to see if the cron is running to update the cohort memberships.

Hi Ram,

You need to sync cohorts not add them. 

  • If you add a cohort it is just a one-off. 
  • If you go to sync cohorts however it will behave as you expect i.e. as students are added or removed from the cohort they are added or removed from the course.

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for the link and the information regarding Cohort sync.

As far as I see I should add a Cohort sync option to each course. Can I do something similar in the Category level so for each course in this category the same cohort will be added (and sync - not just one time adding)?

Hi Ram,
You can't add a cohort to a category. However there is a plugin that allow you to sync cohorts with several courses in bulk with a CSV file upload. https://moodle.org/plugins/tool_uploadenrolmentmethods
