I'm a student in distance learning in a public high school using moodle, with a few questions for teachers as well as looking for some advice.
I am unsure if this is the right place, but I don't know where else to go.
*Deadname - a term used when referencing one’s name before finding their gender identity. A name they do not identify with that often carries shame, dysphoria, and invalidation.
I am a student with a preferred name and preferred pronoun that differ from my legal birth certificate at the moment.
Every few days I have to go back into my profile settings and change it back to my name. All my teachers know my name, the administration at my school knows my name and it is in the database there. However, my name is often changed back to my deadname*. For context, my name is similar enough to my deadname that it is easily identifiable and I have a very uncommon last name. There is not a preferred name option.
Do teachers have the ability to change a student’s profile? Am I required to use my legal name? As a student, I would like some input on what I should do in this situation. It could be a simple system set-up issue, but if it isn't should I take action?
