A bit of background ..... this semester I am teaching a huge auditorium style class with 170 students. The subject is computer terminology and student have to learn and memorize a list of vocabulary words. At first, I had thought the Glossary Activity would be perfect for this . But I balked at the thought of having to grade 170 submissions every week.
A workshop activity seems as if it is my solution. Each week the students would do a new workshop covering ten new words. What I would like to do is for each student to write 2 definitions and then grade 8 definitions.
But it seems as if the same instructions go out to every student. And if I give instructions of "pick two" then the simplest words on the list would get all of the submissions and the harder words would be all avoided. I would use a quiz and pull the words from a question bank, but I cant think of automating any way of giving the question as a quiz and taking in an answer as a workshop.
Any advice or suggestions? Cheesy work-around hacks more than welcome as long as it will take less time to implement than it would to grade the 170 entries individually.
