My Moodle install has outgrown my shared cloud host capabilities.
I have one course with about 70 students, which is not the issue, but at random time during the day (and night when there is no user), I get some I/O peaks like these.
My current host, TMDHosting has not been very helpful in figuring out why, and looking to the raw access logs shows that if I use the system benchmark (downloaded from moodle.org) too often, it will create these I/O peaks. This I understand. But at times, usually once a day, sometimes twice, these light blue peaks develop without a pattern.
TMD are throttling resources when this happens, which means that an otherwise stable and performing site crawls to a halt, which is not acceptable, so I decided to look at a VPS which won't give me this problem that I cannot fix. I suspect the custom_certificate cron job, because looking at the moodle logs, it performs about 380 reads at the issue time. Sometimes. I think that this is a cumulative issue, which makes it really difficult to pinpoint.
So now that you know the whole story, I need help to find a solution. I am paying out of my own pocket, so I would ideally like to spend between $10 and $20 max per month, for a reliable host that will let me focus on the important things.
I signed up for one month with ScalaHosting which don't use CPanel (they use their own SPanel) which helps cutting the cost down because CPanel is expensive to use, even if we don't realise it.
Anybody could please suggest a VPS host that they use without problem? I first used moodle on shared hosting (catastrophe) and I thought that TMD would be the solution but no.
- Moodle 3.9
- 1 Custom Theme
- Edwiser Card format
- Custom Certificates
- 10 courses, 2000 users, with a max of about 50 consecutive users.
- A lot of SCORM activities (generated by iSpring), but they have been optimised already
Thanks in advance,
