To support a course design requirement, I've created a new "Discussion review" forum type (alongside "A single simple discussion", "Q and A forum", etc.), and wondered if there was any interest in it - to see if it's worth me opening a ticket and submiting it for inclusion in core Moodle.
In the Q&A type a student must post to a discussion before they can see any other posts in that discussion.
My "Discussion review" type is like Q&A except that it works at the forum level rather than the discussion level, so a student must create a discussion before they can see other discussions in that forum.
This screenshot may give an idea of how it works:
This was built for a creative writing course, where each student must create a piece of writing for review/discussion by their peers, but not see any writings or discussion from their peers until they have submitted their own.
I had considered using the Q&A type as described above, but it wouldn't fit - at least not without a rather poor UX, as discussion of each student's writing would be mixed into the same discussion as all the other writings.
If this sounds useful (or if you think of a better name), please let me know below.
