How to cite Moodle documentation

How to cite Moodle documentation

We have prepared a paper and in it, we cite Moodle documentation. The editors ask us to properly cite the authors of Moodle documentation. Unfortunately, we have been unable to find a page which states a standard way to cite Moodle documentation. Is there any resource stating it that we missed?

This is the closest that we found.

https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Documentation_credits

Is there any better ways to do it? Thanks in advance.

The Moodle documentation is based on Wiki technology which means it can be modified at any time and you cannot be absolutely certain of the author beyond the idea that someone somewhere with an email address has created an account at Moodle org. However you can reference a specific version of a Moodle doc page, e.g. this link
https://docs.moodle.org/39/en/index.php?title=Gapfill_question_type&oldid=136966
Would take you to the most recent version of that page which is from 3 May 2020, and if the page was updated the link should still point to that version.
This link shows some of the more legendary documenters...

It should be the same as citing any other website, especially if it’s an academic paper. With most referencing styles, you don’t need to list multiple authors of a website. See https://www.citethisforme.com/blog/2019/08/15/cite-wikipedia-article-harvard-apa-mla for advice. As you will be including the date you accessed the page, people will be able to verify your citation using the version history on a wiki page.
