Users have started complaining about the session timeout notification in Moodle. They report it appears after ~15min. In my testing, it does not appear at all.
- We recently upgraded from 3.6.4 to 3.8.4+ (Build: 20200717).
- Our config.php file does not have a line for "sessiontimeout" (https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-34498).
- We use the database for session handling and our timeout setting is 4 hours.
- Our database is MariaDB
- PHP 7.2 and Apache
- Running on RHEL 7.2
I have a screen shot from a user confirming they are presented with the "No recent acitity" prompt with the option to "Extend Session", yet I cannot replicate this experience. My understanding is since our config.php file is missing $CFG->sessiontimeout this message shouldn't display at all. I don't see options for this notification anywhere in Site Administration.
Has anyone encountered similar behavior with session timeouts after upgrading to 3.8 from previous versions? Am I missing something with how session notifications are configured? Does $CFG->sessiontimeout need to be added to config.php anyway with a value less than our session timeout value of 4 hours?
